Genesis Magpayo
Founder & Co-Director

Born and raised in the suburbs of Chicago, Genesis is a 17 year old girl who is a huge advocate for normalizing mental heath! Having struggled with it severely in the past, she founded the newsletter to uplift teenagers and bring awareness to a topic that many people fail to learn about. In her free time, she loves reading, writing, hanging out with friends, and getting boba!

Sadie Madden
Co-Manager, Photography & Art Editor

Sadie is a 17-year-old high school senior. She loves photography and mixed media art, and is also a camp counselor each summer. Sadie has dealt with various mental health issues in the past including depression, generalized anxiety, and ADHD (so essentially a barrel of laughs). She’s very excited to be a manager and art editor of the newsletter to destigmatize some of the things she just mentioned!

Sophia Lucina
Photography & Art Editor

Sophia (Soph) Lucina is a student from La Grange, Illinois. She’s currently a senior at LTHS, and hopes to go to college for film or design. She’s a huge fan of the movie Mid90s, Kid Cudi, and Reid from Criminal Minds. You can follow her on Instagram (@sophialucina or @sophiagracelu for photo) and LetterBoxd @sophlucina)!

Lillie George
Co-Director

Lillie is a senior from the Chicago suburbs. For as long as she can remember, she has turned to writing as both a form of creative expression and an outlet in times of hurt. Therefore, she hopes that by starting the Mental Note newsletter, she will be able to help other girls who have struggled emotionally or mentally by giving them a space to find comfort and express themselves. In her free time, Lillie loves writing, listening to music and running!

Devan Pietrzak
Writing Editor

Devan is a senior from the Chicago suburbs. Devan’s interest in mental health issues faced by today’s youth was sparked by her experience visiting and volunteering at an after-school program for grade school kids. Mentoring these children made her realize that she could use her voice to help others overcome the many emotional and mental challenges that we all often face growing up. Through her writing, she wants to bring light to the oftentimes overlooked mental health issues like ADHD and other mood/anxiety disorders. In being a part of Mental Note, she hopes to provide hope and clarity to young people like herself.

Alejandra Rodriguez
Co-Outreach Director

Alejandra was raised in the suburbs of Chicago, and at 17 she has already found a passion for advocating for social issues! Mental health is extremely important to her, and it is something that she has struggled with for the majority of her teenage years. Alejandra would love to normalize conversations regarding mental health, especially in other women her age! Her hobbies include playing instruments, singing, reading, and writing!

Rebecca Kural
Co-Manager, Writing Editor

Rebecca is a senior in the Southwest Chicago suburbs. Freshman year, she investigated the lack of school support students receive regarding mental health, and the project sparked her interest in the subject. She is especially passionate about dispelling dangerous body myths and encouraging body confidence in young girls and teens. Rebecca loves to read and express herself through music!

Sophia Ciampaglia
Photography & Art Editor

Sophia was born in Chicago and raised in the outskirts of the city before she moved to the suburbs a few years ago. She always used creating and enjoying at as a coping mechanism for her struggles with mental health throughout her life. Sophia is extremely passionate about any art form and how it helps people visualize and understand a completely different worldview from the artist. She thinks it's a perfect way to destigmatize taboo topics, especially mental health. Sophia hopes that the work she will do at this newsletter will help to inspire, uplift and inform anyone that reads it.

Sabrina Mazzone
Co-Outreach Director

Sabrina is a senior from the Chicago suburbs. She joined the newsletter because things such as body positivity and mental health are being talked about more than ever, but are still clouded with stigma and dangerous misinformation. Sabrina loves the idea of giving others a platform to share their stories and openly talk about it! Some fun things she likes to do are watch Disney movies, bake, and play with her cat!
