Heart Palpitation

by Madeline Topic, Writer

Breathe, breathe, just breathe

Inhale then exhale

Don’t cry

Just breathe

The lump in my throat moves upwards making me want to vomit

Tears begin to well in my eyes

Just breathe

My heart begins to palpitate

I can’t breathe

My heart races faster

Thud, thud, thud

My heart beats as fast as a hummingbird flaps its tiny wings

Am I having a heart attack?

I can’t breathe

I begin to tremble

Thoughts raced through my mind

I shake uncontrollably

My chest begins to feel heavy

Stop crying

Breath, just breathe

You’re in control this will pass

My heart rate slows down

I stop shaking

My chest feels lighter

I can breathe
